Over 110 acres of Cottonwood Meadows property will be designated as Open Space, with a significant
portion of this acreage entrusted to Guidestone, a local non-profit dedicated to the stewardship
of regional agricultural resources. Guidestone's mission is to foster a local food economy,
sustainable development and ecological literacy. Resident farmers, leasing land from Guidestone,
have already settled onto the property. Seth and Caitlin Roberts own and operate
Weathervane Farm
producing local produce, flowers, and eggs from happy scratching hens.
Supplying food from farm to table, Colorado Grown, David Lynch proprietor,
(farmerlynch@msn.com)
has a distribution center on Cottonwood Meadows, currently open Saturdays 1:00pm - 5:00pm,
offering natural meats, and other local as well as Colorado grown produce. Future plans
include The Dairy at Cottonwood Creek, a raw milk micro-dairy.
One of Guidestone's primary objectives is hands-on education for all ages. Farmhands, geared
towards youth, offers activities aimed at demonstrating small-scale farming as a sustainable,
viable and dynamic occupation and a unique and fulfilling way of life. Farmhands reconnects
young people and their families to the origins of their food, and to the complexities of
ecological systems through farm-based education. Farmhands day programs and events are anticipated
to begin summer 2007.
